My name is Kalia and I am a freelance photographer based in Minneapolis - St. Paul, Minnesota. My passion is to capture beautiful moments to remember so you can share with your family and friends. Here is my story on how I got started in photography...
At a young age, I always found myself attracted to cameras. Growing up in an Asian American household, we always had special events with family and friends. I always wanted to take pictures of the events to remember those memories with family and friends. However, I did not have a phone or camera and I would always use my dad’s phone to take photos all the time. One day, my dad came home and bought me my very first digital camera. I took photos of everything! I was so excited I would bring it to family events and fishing trips. After a while, my camera broke and I did not have access to a camera anymore.
In high school, I started taking photography or related classes and that’s where my photography grew bigger. I did not buy my first professional camera or start my own photography career until after my oldest brother passed away in November 2016. People may ask why I started after he passed away. It is because I was in charge of creating a photo/video slideshow of my brother’s life. He was only 23 when he passed and was so young. Having to go back and look at his memories that he created with family and friends, I found a lot of photos and videos, but noticed there was not much of a ‘good’ photo of him. Healing from his passing, I realized that life is so short and everyone grows older each day. Time passes by like no tomorrow but for the time that we have together, we must live it to the fullest and keep moving forward. It made me realized that I should start doing something that makes me happy in my life and its photography! I want others to realize that everyone grows older every day and the memories that are created with love stay young forever in our hearts. (RIP big brother Jimmy ♥)
Therefore, that’s why I decided to officially start my photography career/business in 2017. I love capturing the special moments and looking back to reminisce those memories.
